Monday morning the building to see Mao's body was open so we decided to go real quick. The lines to get into Tiananmen square were ridiculous! There were so many people everywhere who didn't believe in personal bubbles at all. After about an hour of trying to get in, we finally made it to see Mao. We walked to the building and went through security. Some people bought yellow flowers and placed them in front of a statue of Mao. We then walked into the next room where Mao's body was. He was in the middle of the room in his own personal glass casket. He had an orange light shining on his face. ( I wonder if it was to help preserve his body.) He had two guards standing behind and to the side of his casket. There was a big glass room that enclosed all of them. there were then more guards on the outside of the wall. We were directed by a rope and had to keep walking. There was no stopping for even a second. It was very cool to see all this commotion going on outside they had so much respect for this one person that they gave him complete silence and respect. He was almost treated as if he were a God.
This is the line to get into Tiananmen square. This picture doesn't do it justice how squished we were.
This is us after we had just seen his body.
We went to The National Library of China because Cynthia really wanted to. It was pretty cool to see. We had to lock our stuff up outside the library.
They had a drinking fountain in there with paper cups that were just like little envelopes
Librarys aren't the funnest thing ever so we had to keep ourselves busy by taking pictures. On our way to the pearl market
That night we went to the night market which is just a street with a whole bunch of food sold on it.
we saw some pretty strange things that you can eat...
lamb, yum!
squid, ya I didn't eat that
Scorpion, yes I did eat a whole scorpion. Despite what my face is saying, it wasn't that bad.
they said no photos of this but I hurried and took one anyway. It's blurry but they have all kinds of weird things to eat including a tarantula which you could not pay me money to eat.
this is fried icecream, the best thing I have ever eaten in my whole 19 years of living.
Me and Cynthia back at our hostel for the night. Our hostel was the best! it was so chill.
So, Jocelyn lost her ticket so her and Britta had to go figure things out. Us girls were alone to find our way to the train and we did it just fine! Everything ended up working with Jocelyn and they were able to get on the train with us and not lose any money.
we got sleepers for the way home which were the best thing ever! we could actually sleep! The 21 hour ride went by so fast.
The only thing that wasn't good is we couldn't sit up straight.
These are the best things sold here in China. You know what they say, An Orion pie a day keeps the doctor away.
